Our Story

How a Fashion Label became your sourcing partner for textiles

Our story began in 2012, when Klaus founded the fashion label Vresh. It soon became clear that “sourcing” was one of the biggest challenges.

Initially we worked with local printers and finished standard T-shirts, but only rarely could our expectations be fully met. In order to be able to produce our own creations, we needed a real textile producer and finding one was more difficult than we thought. After some mistakes we finally found one in Portugal.

The handling of each individual collection and the numerous visits on site made us more and more familiar with the topic of textiles. In the course of time, more and more start-ups and companies, which deal intensively with employer branding, approached us because they liked our products in terms of quality and appearance. And so, it was clear that we could use our know-how and network to create the best textile solutions for companies, associations, bands etc. At the end of 2017, the time had come, and we officially started with “Das Merch.

In the meantime, we have made many friendships besides a production network of about 15 partners. Instead of working with agencies or agents, we invest our money directly in our production partners and help them to improve their processes and modernise their facilities. Thanks to our office in Portugal, we have been able to set up our own production cycle where we control the entire supply chain. Until your product is finished, we work with about 8 different companies, all of which are specialised in a few processes such as printing, cutting or tailoring. In this way we are able to offer high quality, transparency and competitive prices.

Now we are sitting here in our office-showroom-shop-hybrid in the tobacco factory and we are happy about every customer visit. With more than 300 satisfied customers we have already created a broad basis for a sustainably successful company. If you would like more information about our company and our development or are interested in joining our team, simply contact us directly via hello@dasmerch.com

Our new Space

When Chris Müller – Managing Director of the Tobacco Factory Linz – contacted us in 2017 and talked to us about a possible move to Linz, we somehow weren’t ready yet. We liked the idea, but how could we afford it at that time?

We pushed our business forward and grew from month to month. At the beginning of 2018 we were informed that the tobacco factory officially wanted to settle a company from the textile sector, and it was clear to us what we had to do. Supposedly there are more than 200 companies waiting for a place there and we knew that this was the last time we would get this chance. After 12 years in Eferding – Klaus’ brother Peter started there in 2006 with a skate shop, which Klaus later took over – it was time for a change of scenery anyway.

Together with the architect duo Claus & Gregor (http://www.fryraum.com/) we started the project “Vresh & DasMerch. Space” project in the tobacco factory. We chose these two architects because it was important to us not only to have a beautiful interior design, but also to represent our story and our brands accordingly. From the very first presentation, we knew why we brought these two architects on board. They told us about an exhibition in Vorarlberg where they worked with used greenhouse tables. This element embodies the closeness to nature and the idea of growth, quasi the birthplace of ideas and further projects.

After a few meetings we agreed on the concrete appearance of the area. Of course, many details were still missing, but we had enough of the concept to get started on the procurement of materials. Since we wanted to keep our CO2 emissions as low as possible, we tried to buy everything possible used. Via Willhaben we then came across a nursery in Lower Austria, which closed due to retirement. So, we drove there, chose the greenhouse tables and the gardener cut his tables with the Flex, which were just in operation, apart. Some of these tables have been around for over 30 years, so it took some fine-tuning to make them look as they do now in our store.

We invested over a year of planning and procurement in our new Space and we are simply proud and happy with what has come of it. Whether you are interested in our products or if you are interested in sustainability, you should definitely come and visit us.

Transparency is an important part of our philosophy and therefore we would like to give you an insight into who the faces behind our great products are.

We met Nuno about 2 years ago and since then he has fulfilled all our wishes regarding fabrics. From our classic polyester-cotton jersey (recycled or organic) to cuddly organic cotton and functional textiles made of wood fibres. In addition to fabric production, Nuno is also very familiar with the subject of recycling. Together with his father, he operates a processing plant where the fabric scraps are collected by various companies, sorted according to colour and quality and then pressed into bales.

To ensure that your T-shirt fits properly, it must of course be perfectly cut. This is ensured by José, among others. A few years ago, he started his own business and runs a small company with two employees. There, in addition to our textiles, many fabrics of the big brands are cut. With this small team we are very flexible and can rely on the accuracy and attention to detail of our partner.

After the fabric for your new T-shirt has been made and the individual pieces have been cut out of it, it is time to personalise the T-shirt. This is done by Belinha, her aunt and the rest of this professional printing company. Equipped with the best machines for screen printing & co. hundreds of textiles are printed there day by day. No matter if small detail prints or full prints over the whole textile, there are hardly any limits.

Small motifs and logos are particularly suitable for an embroidery. In this case Pedro is our contact person. In his small but fine embroidery workshop he not only makes standard embroideries but also very special projects with sequins. In addition to our print shop, we also have a competent partner for embroideries in Pedro, with whom we can realise any style according to our wishes.

Raquel & Piedade

Now we have reached the most important step, that the fabric becomes a finished T-shirt or hoodie. In the sewing room, the individual pieces are sewn together from the cut-out to form one piece. With extreme precision and a great deal of sensitivity, each individual piece becomes a masterpiece. Raquel, her mother and ten other hard-working hands work in the mountains above Fafe and make it possible for you to buy so many beautiful textiles from us. We are proud to be an important partner of this small company and to ensure continuity with every order.

Raquel is also our coordinating master and has a great overview of all production processes.

Before your T-shirt lands on your desk, it will be properly tested once again. Felipe and his team wash and dry our goods with the most modern industrial machines so that you won’t have any unpleasant surprises after the first wash. This guarantees the highest quality and longevity for every single piece.
